110th Anniversary Look Back - Day 4

Today we're combining #NationalTriviaDay with #365DaysofKegelHD because did you know that Kegel Harley-Davidson has been owned and operated by FOUR generations of Kegels?

It all started with Grandpa Joe when he took over the small bicycle shop in Freeport back in 1909 after previous owner Joe Redlinger retired and then in 1946, his sons Robert and Harold bought into the company as equal partners. In 1953 the brothers decided to split the business, with Harold taking on the bicycle aspect of it under the name of Rockford Cycle Sales and Robert officially rebranding the motorcycle side of it as Kegel Motorcycle Co.

By the mid-60s, Robert's children - including sons Karl and Mark - were put to work starting at their uncle's bicycle shop and eventually working between both stores off and on as needed, being that they were only a block apart. In 1974 Karl became a partner of his father's business and later on Mark and the rest of the siblings also became owners with their father.

Near the end of 2017 Karl decided to retire, passing the reigns of running Kegel Motorcycle Co (currently know as Kegel Harley-Davidson) onto his brother Mark and Mark's daughter Katrina.
