110th Anniversary Look Back - Day 7

Anyone ever ride in the mud? Today's #365DaysofKegelHD is a fun little article from November 3, 1913:

FREEPORT RIDERS PLUG MUD
Freeport, Ill., Oct. 27 - If any motorcycle riders around northern Illinois like to ride mud, the Freeport boys invite them to take a ride from Freeport to Rockford just after a rain storm.

Yesterday morning when the sun was peeking o'er the horizon seven dyed-in-the-wool motorcyclists started for a joy ride to Rockford. Altho it is only 30 miles yet it is rather uncomfortable riding as the roads are in very poor shape. The boys reached Rockford without any mishaps but their visit was cut short by a sudden downpour of rain; the start was made for home, leaving Rockford at noon. For a few miles the going was fine but then trouble began. When ten miles were covered Joe Kegel, Harley-Davidson dealer and Dell Cole, president of the club, who were leading stopped to wait for the other riders. After waiting over an hour they decided to beat it. Kegel arrived home at 8 o'clock, taking 8 hours to cover 30 miles. Cole weathered the night at the Yellow Creek Brewery which is about four miles from Freeport. The other riders took to the interurban line, leaving their machines at various farm houses.
