110th Anniversary Look Back - Day 110

Today we share an article from September 1923 that talks about Julius taking over the Freeport shop after Joe branched the family business out to Rockford!

JULIUS A. KEGEL SUCCEEDS BROTHER AS PROPRIETOR OF MOTORCYCLE BUSINESS

After having been in business in Freeport for over 14 years, Joseph E. Kegel, proprietor of Kegel and company, has disposed of his business at 110 S. Galena avenue, to a brother, Julius A. Kegel. The transaction was effective as of Sept. 1, but Joseph Kegel will not leave the Freeport business until next week.

The firm hereafter will be known as the Freeport Cycle Sales Company but no change in policy is contemplated. As in the past the new firm will continue the agency for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, bicycles, accessories, repairs and service and the attending lines of work. The new proprietor is not a stranger to Freeport, having been associated with the former Redlinger shop for years and at times assisted in his brother's shop. He is also a motorcycle driver of note, taking part in past motorcycle events in this city.

Joseph Kegel has secured the Harley-Davidson agency for Winnebago county and will move to Rockford next week, the family joining him as soon as a home is secured there. The Rockford business will be known as the Rockford Cycle Sales Company and will be run along lines similar to the Freeport business but independent of it.

Both the Kegels are progressive young men and there is no question but that they will be successful in the businesses they are to head. The large acquaintanceship which Julius Kegel has made, not only in his long connection with the bicycle sales business but also while with the Western Union in Freeport, and the honest and efficient methods employed by both in business, assures them much success.
