About Annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention Rides:
The Annual Suicide Awareness and Prevention Rides group on Facebook was created in order to assist organizer Shawn Nisus with his mission to raise awareness and money for suicide prevention. After his friend and comrade was lost to suicide in 2020, Shawn immediately committed a large portion of his time and energy to host his first suicide awareness and prevention ride titled "This One is For You," dedicated to his fallen friend. He continues to devote his free time to the cause. Since the last ride he coordinated, Shawn has become an ambassador for Mission 22, and worked diligently to ensure the success of his second run, "Never Forget the Fallen."
A Message from the Ride Coordinator:
"This is the second annual Suicide Awareness Ride. My name is Shawn Nisius, and I am hosting along with Jay D and the Facebook Page “Annual Suicide and Awareness Rides.” This ride means the world to me because last year my fellow Comrade and friend lost his silent battle with depression and took his own life. I have devoted myself to managing this ride every year now and leaving behind a lasting memory of him. This ride “Never Forget The Fallen” puts a new meaning to this phrase that most have never seen before. As most know, this meaning is to never forget the fallen men and women who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Now I want to add on to this meaning to never forget the men and women who lost their lives to suicide. 22 soldiers a year fall to suicide and it is 22 to many. The Non-profit Organization that we will be donating all proceeds to this year will be Mission 22 as they fight for Veteran’s Suicide Prevention. Your apart of fight, Let’s Ride!!!!!!"
The Mission 22 Story:
"Mission 22 supports the veteran community with three main programs; veteran treatment programs, memorials and community social impact. Mission 22 provides treatment programs to veterans for Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury and other issues they might be facing. It organizes events and builds memorials to create social impact and awareness for these issues. Mission 22 serves combat veterans, those injured in training who therefore could not deploy and victims of MST. Mission 22 also has an Ambassador volunteer program for people to get involved as well. Ambassadors educate the public on veteran issues, help get veterans into Mission 22 treatment programs and create resources in their communities. Through these three programs, it enables a push for the betterment of our community and support when veterans need it the most, right now. "
